Slopes! Magazine
New Mexico’s Winter Adventure Guide has been published annually for over 20 years. In 2008 the magazine was redesigned as
Slopes! and given an editorial makeover. Print distribution has increased to 80,000 copies. From September though January,
Slopes! is distributed through visitors centers, rack programs, trade shows and State Fairs in
New Mexico,
Texas and
Oklahoma and nationwide via direct mail requests and Department of Tourism fulfillment programs. The new online
e-magazine has received tens-of-thousands of pageviews this season bringing our estimated readership to well over 100,000.
Slopes! advertisers reach a broad demographic of prospective winter sports tourists at a time when many are beginning to plan their winter vacations. With so many ways to participate, Slopes! has a proven method for reaching new and returning visitors to New Mexico.

SkiNewMexico.com
The SkiNewMexico.com website was re-launched in October 2009 with a suite of new features, a friendly new design and an improved advertising platform. This past season traffic increased 58.3%, compared the two previous years and the typical visitor now spends almost three minutes on the website. Page views have increased an astounding 727%. You can view our
web stats here.
Our new vertical web banners doubled in size to 160 x 600 pixels, and were given more prominent page positioning along side our content. Between October and March, web banner advertising reached over 526,623 impressions with nearly 10,735 click-thrus. Thousands more linked through our Membership listings, Business Directories and Great Deals pages. In fact 48% of visitors to SkiNewMexico.com clicked on an advertiser link or web banner ad. Since web advertising is packaged with magazine ads, it’s difficult to predict which media might be more valuable to advertisers. The benefits of both are obviously enormous.
Social Media
Much of the increased traffic to SkiNewMexico.com may be attributed to our appearances at the Texas and Oklahoma State Fairs in 2009. But it’s also likely that most new visitors were lured by our
Daily Snow Reports — available on the website, by
email,
RSS and
Twitter. More than 3,800 people are pinged daily during the ski season.

Ski New Mexico’s social media following has evolved steadily since last summer. Our two
Twitter pages have over 1,500 followers. Our
Facebook fan base increased to 1,050 fans between October and March.
Great Deals posted to our website are also posted to our Facebook page and tweeted @SkiNewMexico. We’re always exploring new methods to share New Mexico’s diverse winter sports offerings and are working with members and advertisers to enhance everyone’s social media presence.
