“SNOOOW-NEWS”

Now that the season is underway it is time once again to report on the Ski Resorts as well as the business of Ski New Mexico. Four of the Ski Resorts in New Mexico opened on time regardless of the lack of help from “Mother Nature”. Sipapu Resort started the state off by opening on time Nov. 15th 2008 with recorded crowds and lots of happy people. “This is the 6th year in a row Sipapu has been the first resort in New Mexico to open to the public” said James Coleman managing partner of Sipapu Resort“. We had people here from all over: Albuquerque, Taos, Amarillo, Lubbock,” said John Paul Bradley, Sipapu’s general manager. “Guests were saying a lot of positive things about the snow and the early season conditions”. Red River was the next resort to open Nov. 26th with also a recorded number of skiers and great man-made snow. Red River is open weekends only until Dec. 12th they when go on a daily operations for the rest of the season. Taos and Ski Apache both opened on man-made snow Nov. 27th as scheduled and had recorded business for this time of the year. Guest at all resorts reported good fun, great skiing, and a wonderful way to start the season. Ski Santa Fe postponed their scheduled Nov. 27th opening and will open as soon as weather permits. The Enchanted Forest will open for business Dec. 5th for the cross country enthusiasts on 15 inches of snow. Pajarito is scheduled to open Dec. 12th and Angel Fire and Sandia Peak are both scheduled to open Dec. 19th. Skiing is underway and fun and some great early season “deals” awaits those early skiers and boarders.

The Ski New Mexico organization has been busy preparing for the up-coming season. During the months of Oct. and Nov. we have been on the road promoting our product “Ski & Ride the Winter Sun”. NEW This Year: Our ski resorts will be providing live streaming video for our guest and media outlets. Each alpine resort will have a “Ski New Mexico Department of Tourism” web cam which is controllable by the viewer on line. These web cams will give the viewer a real time up to date view of our resorts. This system of cameras is in addition to the ones presently at many of our resorts. The web address is www.skinewmexico.com, then click on web cams. This program will go live on Dec. 15th. And we expect to see a huge number of views to use the system.

Ski New Mexico is also proud to announce the expansion of the KOAT TV-7 Kids learn to ski program. Last year’s program provided 4 weekends for reservations, this year kids can make reservations for ski lessons from Jan. 5th through Jan31st (space available). We expect to double the number of kids we teach to ski this season. We are still looking for new Ski New Mexico members, so if businesses out there are interested go to our web site and download the membership application. There are other promotions and programs in the works ready to get rolled out once things are finalized. We are still looking for promotional partners. Last but not least Ski New Mexico will be conducting “Ski Tourism Community” seminars in Red River and Angel Fire and some discussion is underway for Santa Fe, Ruidoso, and Taos. These programs are designed to provide information to the “front-line” people about our ski industry. If you are interested in learning more contact me at gbrooks@skinewmexico.com.

Remember only in New Mexico can you “Ski & Ride the Winter Sun”
