Best of the Best Awards
Each year, the New Mexico Ski Hall of Fame, along with Ski New Mexico, recognizes the Best of the Best in the state’s ski industry. This distinguished award celebrates outstanding employees who elevate the New Mexico ski experience.
Award Categories
Nominate employees in one of the following categories:
- Leadership Excellence Award
- Rising Star Award
- Ski Patroller of the Year
- Rental Shop Employee of the Year
- Customer Service Award
- Mountain Operations Employee of the Year
- Ski Instructor of the Year
Deadline for submission: End of day, May 19, 2025.
Categories and Criteria
Leadership Excellence Award
Description:
This award honors an individual who demonstrates outstanding leadership within their organization or the industry as a whole. Whether through mentorship, innovation, team-building, or driving meaningful change, this person consistently elevates those around them and leads by example.
Nomination Criteria:
- Exhibits integrity, vision, and strategic thinking
- Inspires and motivates their team or peers
- Demonstrates a track record of positive impact on their organization
- Leads initiatives that go beyond day-to-day responsibilities
- Can be from any department or role
Rising Star Award
Description:
This award recognizes a rising star in the industry—someone early in their career who is already making a big impression. They bring fresh energy, innovative thinking, and show strong potential for future leadership.
Nomination Criteria:
- Typically in the industry for 5 years or fewer (flexible)
- Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and strong work ethic
- Positively impacts guests, teammates, or operations
- Seen as someone to watch and invest in for the future
- Open to any area of operations
Ski Patroller of the Year
Description:
This award honors a ski patroller who exemplifies professionalism, skill, and a deep commitment to guest safety and mountain well-being. Whether responding to emergencies, maintaining terrain safety, or mentoring others, this individual is a true guardian of the slopes.
Nomination Criteria:
- Demonstrates excellence in safety, rescue, and medical protocols
- Provides calm, confident leadership in high-pressure situations
- Promotes teamwork and professionalism within the patrol team
- Goes above and beyond to ensure guest safety and positive experiences
- Respected by peers, supervisors, and resort guests
Rental Shop Employee of the Year
Description:
This award recognizes a rental shop team member who consistently delivers exceptional service while maintaining efficiency, safety, and a welcoming atmosphere. They play a key role in setting the tone for a guest’s mountain experience.
Nomination Criteria:
- Provides fast, friendly, and knowledgeable service
- Demonstrates technical skill with equipment setup and safety
- Helps educate guests with patience and positivity
- Contributes to a smooth, well-organized rental operation
- Viewed as a reliable and positive team player
Customer Service Award
Description:
This award celebrates an employee whose warmth, professionalism, and commitment to guest satisfaction make a lasting impression. Whether working front-of-house or behind the scenes, this individual consistently goes the extra mile.
Nomination Criteria:
- Exhibits a consistently positive and helpful attitude
- Resolves guest concerns with empathy and efficiency
- Acts as an ambassador for the resort’s values and experience
- Builds strong rapport with both guests and colleagues
- Demonstrates creative problem-solving and follow-through
Mountain Operations Employee of the Year
Description:
This award recognizes an operations team member whose hard work, dedication, and behind-the-scenes excellence keep the mountain running smoothly and safely. Their role may not always be visible, but their impact is undeniable.
Nomination Criteria:
- Contributes to lift operations, grooming, snowmaking, or other essential mountain functions
- Exhibits a strong work ethic in all weather and conditions
- Prioritizes safety, efficiency, and teamwork
- Plays a key role in creating a great on-mountain experience
- Shows initiative and pride in their work
Ski Instructor of the Year
Description:
This award honors a ski or snowboard instructor who demonstrates exceptional teaching ability, enthusiasm, and a passion for helping guests grow and thrive on the snow.
Nomination Criteria:
- Connects with students of all ages and abilities
- Provides patient, personalized instruction
- Inspires confidence and fun through clear communication
- Demonstrates professionalism and continuous improvement
- Frequently requested or recognized by returning guests
Rules and Restrictions
- One recipient will be selected for each category.
- If your candidate is not selected this year, you are welcome to resubmit their name in future years if they continue to excel.
- Deadline for submission: End of day, May 19, 2025.
- Submissions must be complete to be considered.
Recognition
Award recipients will be recognized in a Ski NM press release and honored at the Hall of Fame Annual Banquet.
- Award notifications and banquet details will be provided by the Ski NM Executive Director.
