New Year’s Celebrations 2019

Dec 27, 2018 by Kelsie Stelting

Step up your New Year’s Eve game this year and celebrate in the mountains! With events suitable for the entire family, enjoy good company, food, drinks and entertainment right by the lifts.

Angel Fire Resort

Bring in 2019 in Angel Fire with an NYE torchlight parade! Dress warmly and gather at the base of the mountain to watch a spectacular show of athleticism and light as skiers come down the mountain guided by torches and backlit by fireworks. The event begins at 6 p.m. so the entire family can celebrate together. Don’t forget your hot cocoa!

Red River

In the mood for an old-fashioned NYE? Visit the Red River Community house for a family friendly party with pizza, music, and games. Watch the ball drop at 10 p.m. so the kids won’t have to miss out. Or, enjoy skiing and sledding at Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area with which will be lit up at the base area. If you’re getting to town early, stop by the Grill House and enjoy food and drinks for an extra special torchlight parade at Red River Ski Area Dec. 29. The parade will feature a massive firework display you won’t want to miss.

Taos Ski Valley

Round out a nice day on the slopes with Taos Ski Valley’s NYE torchlight parade. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., skiers will bring torches down the mountain, followed by an amazing firework show. Following the parade, adults can countdown to the new year with a drink at the Martini Tree Bar!

Albuquerque

If you’re enjoying the last of 2018 in old town Albuquerque, go back to the ‘90s. This NYE bash features a musical performance by Vanilla Pop, champagne, and a traditional balloon drop. Click here to learn more.

This NYE is the perfect opportunity to carry on old traditions while making new ones. Wherever you celebrate, we wish you ha happy New Year and hope your future includes many trips to ski in New Mexico!

El Nino in Full Effect

Dec 13, 2018 by Kelsie Stelting

At the beginning of the season, we wrote about all the things we are excited about, including some improvements at the ski areas and the expected El Nino winter. An El Nino prediction bodes well for skiers because it means more snow!

New Mexico ski areas are already seeing increased snowfall. According to an article in Albuquerque Business First, Ski Santa Fe has already received 85 percent of its 2017 snowfall. Similarly, Angel Fire Resort has seen 60 percent of last year’s snowfall.

Not only does this mean better conditions for a day on the slope, but the added precipitation benefits the areas as well with extra tourism. When the resorts can stay open longer, the surrounding towns can continue to benefit from tourism. Dash Hegemen with Taos Ski Valley reported the resort saw a 300 percent increase in visitations over the previous year!

With all the hype surrounding this year’s season and increased snowfall, it’s more important than ever to book ahead for important dates! Whether you’re planning a big family vacation or trying to get in some skiing on a holiday weekend, make sure your travel and accommodations are booked in advance.

Ski New Mexico provides an up-to-date snow report on the website, sharing information about the base, number of runs open, weather, and more. With the extra snowfall, bases are ranging from 15 inches at Pajarito Mountain to 35 inches at Taos Ski Valley.

Keep checking the snow report and sign up for our email newsletter to get updated information about the cumulative snowfall and other conditions.
