You Have to Try Green Chile at These New Mexico Restaurants

Green Chile is one of the most popular cultural foods in New Mexico. Make sure your trip to New Mexico is complete by trying green chile at one of these amazing restaurants. We are sure you will love the atmosphere, flavors, and New Mexico culture!

The Shed
Location: 113 1/2 E Palace Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87501
If you’re looking for an inviting and cozy place to eat right downtown, the shed is the perfect place. It’s located in the Santa Fe Plaza very close to the square. As you walk into the old Adobe home, you’ll recognize the low doorways and traditional features. The green chile is authentic and we recommend trying out the enchiladas while you’re there.

La Choza
Location: 905 Alarid St, Santa Fe, NM 87505
If you’re looking for a place to eat further away from the busy part of town, try out La Choza. It’s owned by the same family as The Shed, but located near the railyard area in Santa Fe. It was voted the No. 1 New Mexican restaurant by readers of the Santa Fe Reporter, and we are sure you will enjoy it as well. 

Horseman’sHaven
Location: 4354 Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe, NM 87507
Horseman’s Haven serves old fashioned New Mexico food in a community-oriented setting. They offer great portion sizes at prices you can afford. Reviewers have raved about the restaurant for their quick service and casual atmosphere. We recommend trying out the green chile bacon burger next time you’re in town!

Duran Central Pharmacy
Location:1815 Central Ave NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104
Duran Central Pharmacy is a quirky spot that locals and tourists alike enjoy. All of their food is made in the restaurant, and just love the hand-rolled tortillas. It’s been featured in major Publications like New Mexico Magazine, Bon Appetit, and Conde Nast. When you go, you can expect excellent service, delicious food, and prices you can love. We suggest trying out the huevos rancheros while you’re there.

Ten 3
Location: 30 Tramway Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122
If you’re looking for dinner with a view, Ten3 can’t be beat. Located at the top of Sandia Peak, you can ride the tram to the top and take in the beautiful scenery as you go, and then enjoy dishes made by an experienced chef. One of the best green chili dishes there is the Smash Burger. You can either sit in the formal dining area or at the bar while enjoying delicious beverages.  

Owl Bar & Cafe
Location: 77 U.S. Highway 380, San Antonio, NM 87832
Head to the Owl Bar & Cafe to try the famous Owl Burger. Thea restaurant grinds their own beef, and even prepares their green chile sauce every day so you can ensure you’re eating fresh, homemade, delicious food every time you visit. In addition to the olive burger they offer several fantastic dishes, so there will always be something for every member of the family! 

El Parasol
Location: Multiple, including Santa Fe and Los Alamos
Enjoy authentic New Mexican and Mexican dishes at one of El Parasols multiple locations. You can expect a casual atmosphere with delicious food that has been featured and Publications like the New York Timesand Bon Appetit. Head to the Santa Fe location after a fun day at Ski Santa Fe, or bring the whole family to the Los Alamos location after enjoying the family-friendly atmosphere at Pajarito Mountain. 

Orlando’s New Mexican Cafe
Location: 1114 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte, El Prado, NM 87529
This cozy restaurant offers an authentic experience to guests. While the space may be small, the flavor is large and commands attention! Be sure to arrive early to secure your space or enjoy one of their signature margaritas while you wait by the fire pit. Michael’s Kitchen
Location:304-C North Pueblo Road, Taos, New Mexico 87571
This long-standing restaurant in Taos is considered one of the best restaurants in town. It’s been in business since 1974, and has developed into a real family, with some of the original staff members still working there. They offer generous portions at affordable prices, as well as delicious bakery options like fritters and cinnamon rolls. It’s a great place to grab breakfast on your way to the mountain or treat yourself after a full day of skiing or snowboarding.

The Complete Sipapu Experience

Sipapu, New Mexico, is nestled in the mountains in northern New Mexico. Located on the mountain, the resort includes a variety of trails, dining options, lodging, rentals, and more. Visiting Sipapu is a great option for solo-travelers, families, groups, friends, especially those looking for the entire experience in a convenient location.

Family Friendly Slopes
When families or groups go skiing together, they can have challenges finding a mountain that meets the needs of the entire group. At Sipapu, there are several lift options, from a magic carpet to quad lift that are suitable for those of all levels, along with a selection of green, blue, and black trails that allow you to explore the mountain regardless of skill level. Enjoyable Lessons
Getting lessons from skilled instructors who make the experience fun can hugely improve a trip to the mountains! At Sipapu, the instructors are dedicated to helping you develop skills whether it’s your first time skiing or you’re an experienced snowboarder. Their children’s ski school ensures your child will have a great time while you’re enjoying the slopes. Or, if you’re learning later in life, you’ll have an instructor who meets you at your level and helps you grow!

Engaging Events
From s’mores to cardboard derbies, Sipapu is committed to finding ways to connect guests and help them have a great time. Their event calendar is full of fun options like open mic nights, Hawaiian day, or even a moonlight hike and campfire.

Spring at Sipapu means events, and two of the biggest, most anticipated are this month. 

First up on Sunday, March 15, the annual celebration of all things duct tape, cardboard and twine: The Cardboard Derby. This zany contest of any and all kinds of cardboard vessels vying for a shot at glory is always a fun day. 

Second is the Pond Skimming Contest, March 21, across the handmade “Lake Sipapu,” a 75 foot long, 3 foot deep chilly dip at the base of the mountain.

Mountain Town Breweries You Have to Try

New Mexico is home to more than 70 breweries, and several of them are located right in the mountains, easily accessible to your ski destinations! We’ve lined up brewing companies near each ski area for you to check out on your next vacation.

Red River

Red River Brewing Company
Visit Red River Brewing Company on Main Street for a selection of delicious locally brewed beers.  It is a great place to have dinner, meet with a large group for an outing, or simply try out the local beers. The company opened in 2018, and is a family-owned business we hope you can frequent for years to come.

Angel Fire

Enchanted Circle Brewing Company
Try your next craft beer at 8500 ft. Enchanted Circle Brewing Company uses virgin spring water from deep in the mountain to craft the beers, along with fresh ingredients for you to have the best experience possible. Stop in at their original location in Angel Fire to try out a handcrafted brew or head to their new location in Albuquerque for a night or weekend of fun.

Santa Fe 

Santa Fe brewing Company
Check out Santa Fe Brewing Company at their headquarters in Santa Fe where you can choose from 27 types of beer, cider, wine a more. They have a small selection of food as well, in addition to their stunning beer garden. Many of their brews are also available at local grocery stores if you want to try them out at your home. Los Alamos

Bathtub Brewing Co-op is a perfect place to stop and hang out after a date on the Mountain at Pajarito. Located at 163 Central Park Square in Los Alamos, they’re open all week long, and have a fun laid-back atmosphere. Their selection ranges from ales to loggers and more. Ruidoso

If you’re visiting Ruidoso to go skiing or snowboarding at Ski Apache, be sure to stop by Lost Hiker Brewing Company. It’s a family-owned business that has years of practice crafting unique brews. Their menu features several standbys, as well as seasonal options. Swing by for one of their events, or just to try some new craft beer. 

Albuquerque

La Cumbre Brewing Company is a major brewery located in Albuquerque. Their brews are served at many restaurants, including Ten3 and Sandiago’s Grill at the Tram which you can access when visiting Sandia Peak. La Cumbre also has two locations where you can go to the taproom and try out the drinks!

Marble Brewery is another business that helped start the microbrewing culture in New Mexico. With three locations across Albuquerque, they’re a convenient stop on your way home from dinner or as part of a night on the town. They have won several awards for multiple of their beers, as well as Small Brewing Company of the Year at the Great American Beer Festival.

Taos

If you’re looking for a fun night out or a delicious craft beer while skiing at Taos Ski Valley, stop by Taos Mesa Brewing which features twelve house beers on draft all times. In addition to the drinks, you’ll love the events they have, where artists come in and play live music! Learn more about Taos Mesa here.
