Epic Snowfall

by monica February 26, 2015

Snow totals as of Feb. 26. Please see snow report for current totals!!

You may not need a snorkel yet but you can get lots of face shots!  New Mexico ski areas are getting hammered with snow and there is more on the way.  Forecasts are showing as much as two to three feet additional snowfall for New Mexico over the next 7 days.  Area operators are excited about the recent snow and are looking forward to having great snow through the month of March.

Red River Ski & Summer Area

Red River has seen 37 inches in the last 5 days. Deputy General Manager, Walt Foley, stated, “we have the best ski conditions in a few years…for sure!” “ With almost three feet of snow so far in the past week and more forecasted daily for the next 7 days, our spring break guests are going to experience an awesome ski and ride experience not to mention their first ride on the Pioneer Flyer (weather permitting),” said Walt.  Our family welcomes your family to come up and enjoy the Red River Ski & Summer Area.

Ski Santa Fe

Snowing began falling at Ski Santa Fe on Tuesday morning. It received 8 inches, taking its base to 44 inches. The ropes have even dropped on most of the last terrain to typically open, Big Rock Chutes. Chutes No. 1-4 are skiing hip deep. Join them for locals appreciation day, March 5th  where everyone is a local and recieve $25 off your ticket!  Join the party at Totemoff’s with live music by “The Bus Tapes” from 12pm – 3PM  and enjoy 25% off local tap beers plus the grill will be open all day at 25% off.

Taos Ski Valley

They finally got the dump it’s been waiting for all season, picking up 20 inches and pushing its base to 57 inches. It is currently hosting the Solomon Extreme Freeride Championships, with the finals scheduled for Saturday on Kachina Peak. Also on Feb. 28 is the annual Telemark Fiesta, which will include a fun race, instruction for all levels, and a transceiver location training exercise.

Pajarito

“Mother Nature has finally awoken in New Mexico. 5 inches here, not much during the day today, but “she” is scheduled to return tonight,” said Tom Long with Pajarito. They are reporting a 30–inch base, with 31 of 44 runs open. On March 14, the area will host its annual Skiesta, with costume events, ski competitions, the Pajarito Mountain King and Queen contest, suds from eight local breweries at the New Mexico Beer Association Beer Garden and live music by the Sean Healen Band.

Angel Fire Resort

As of Thursday Angel Fire Resort had received 15” of new snow and over 3 feet in the past 5 days. It’s still snowing very heavy and forecasters are expecting for them to receive an additional foot of snow before Monday. “We are definitely expecting this to be the best snow week of the season so far,” said Robin May, Angel Fire Resort. They have 76 of their 79 runs open -even Silver Chute, Upper Domingo and Maxwell’s Grant — are now open. It is retro weekend and don’t forget to check out the Dos Equis Big Air Bag sets up in the base area from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come test your courage in old school style!

Sipapu

They have 9 new inches and is sitting on a 32-inch base, with 93 percent of its runs open. Marketing manager, Stacy Glaser said, “Like all of our guests, we are excited about the incredible snow that’s been falling throughout the Southwest, and we’re equally eager to see what happens with this next storm. All indicators are pointing to another big, snowy weekend at all of our mountains.”

Sandia Peak

Sandia Peak is reporting a few new inches and a 20-inch base. The resort will be operating on a weekend-only basis to the close of the season.

Ski Apache

Ski Apache got 6” last night and they are reporting a 30″ base! Their biggest total for the season was when they got over 24” in 48 hours. “We are very lucky to have had such a great season and we are really looking forward to our spring break events including a Vertical GPS Challenge and a Beach Body and Pond Skim Contest coming up March 7th and 16th respectively. We hope you can come and join us! Now go get some of that fresh powder!”
