There’s something special about the final turns of the season.

It’s sunshine and soft snow. Costumes in the lift line. Goggle tans earned the hard way. It’s high-fives with strangers, one more lap with friends, and that feeling of squeezing every last moment out of winter.

As the 2025–2026 ski season begins to wind down, ski areas across New Mexico are preparing for their final weekends. Some are going out with full-on spring celebrations, while others are keeping the lifts spinning as long as the snow allows.

From pond skims to cardboard races and live music in the base area, closing weeks are one of the most fun times to be on the mountain.

Here’s what we know so far about closing days across Ski New Mexico — and where you can join the celebration.

All closing dates are weather dependent and subject to change.

Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort

Projected Closing: March 29, 2026
Sipapu brings plenty of creativity to its spring lineup.  On March 21, the resort hosts its popular Cardboard Derby, where teams design and race homemade cardboard sleds down the hill. Expect wild designs, big laughs, and plenty of friendly competition.

The fun continues on March 29 with Sipapu’s annual Pond Skim, a spring classic where skiers and riders attempt to skim across icy water — often while dressed in their most outrageous costumes.  It’s exactly the kind of playful energy that makes spring skiing in New Mexico unforgettable.
